Dr Susie Muir coach

Hi, I’m Susie.

Doctor. Coach. Supervisor. Mum of two, wife, sister, aunty, friend, neighbour, me. In any order and often all at once.

After completing medical school in 2006 in Scotland, I moved to Australia in 2007 looking for adventure. I questioned my career in medicine many times and over the next ten years meandered through medicine squeezing as much out of work and into life as possible.

For eight years I rotated through various specialities, working extensively in emergency medicine, obstetrics, rural medicine and spent a short time in most other areas. I am now dual trained in General Practice and Palliative Medicine and work full time as a consultant in Palliative Medicine.

In amongst all of this I met my husband and had two children. Thanks to medical training (and the quest for adventure) we have moved house multiple times and are finally settled in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast.

Working in palliative care, I am exposed on a daily basis to the unpredictable and unreliable nature of life. So many people are shackled by unrealistic expectations which limit their ability to live a full and satisfying life. They realise they are living their life the way they think they should, rather than the way they want.

Life might be unpredictable, but your experience of it does not have to be.

Why Free Your Mind Coaching?

two paths alongside each other representing the support for doctors during supervision and coaching sessions.

Because I get it.

Having trained and worked in medicine for nearly 25 years I understand intimately the rigors of being a doctor. I understand the all consuming nature of this work and how, if you’re not careful, it can swallow you up and spit you out feeling overwhelmed, lost and burnt out. Your identity can become so attached to being a doctor that you forget who you are as a person, what your values are and how to fill your cup. When asked the question “what do you do for fun” you draw a blank and realise you’ve focused so long on being a good doctor for your patient that you’ve forgotten how to be a good human for you.

COACHING.

As a professional coach with extensive lived experience working in medicine, I can relate to many of the challenges faced by clinicians at all stages of their career. I can expertly coach you in multiple areas and am excited to chat to you about where coaching could take you.

SUPERVISION.

As a trained provider of supervision, I offer a rare opportunity to start processing the “human” aspects of what we do everyday with someone who “gets it”.

For many doctors, the idea of regular supervision may be a bit of an unknown concept and the benefits hard to imagine. By working with me, I will facilitate your personal and professional growth as a clinician and support you to craft a balanced and fulfilling medical career.
